In June of 2011 I was invited to join the NRHAaccounting department as an accounting assistant. I was blown away at first, but extremely excited and motivated. While I love the duties of an administrative assistant, I have always dreamed of working in an accounting department. This was a dream opportunity. Nevada Rural Housing Authority has reached that point where we have administered all our government issued Section 8 Vouchers for rental assistance and now must close our waiting list. And yet, the need is still out there in the community. The challenge for me is to try and find alternative services for people in need who walk into our lobby looking for assistance. I’ve done quite a bit of research online and am currently working on compiling a list to help the public to locate services and resources available in Northern Nevada.

I have been with Nevada Rural Housing Authority for nearly 12 years and I can’t remember a day that I didn’t learn something! I go home each night and help my kids with their homework and can’t imagine what they must be feeling with all the information being given to them and what their brains have to retain. Then I go to work and feel the same thing about myself. HUD’s regulations seem to change by the minute, so you have to stay sharp to keep up.
