Southgate Apartments is a senior community built by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority in 1978 to offer low-income seniors the opportunity to live independently and enjoy their freedom in a centrally-located area of Carson City.

The complex currently has 88 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units. All 100 of these units are currently undergoing a major renovation to modernize, beautify and improve their energy efficiency. 48 additional units are being built with completion expected by fall of 2009.

All Southgate apartments have a stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal, carpet and window coverings. All units are wired for telephone and cable TV and offer individually controlled furnaces and air conditioners.

Southgate is a true community offering tenants a variety of social activities and services. Potlucks, spaghetti dinners and bingo are regular events on the calendar and a game room offers exercise equipment, puzzles, assorted games and a supply of reading materials.

Many tenants at Southgate qualify for the Meals on Wheels program and various home-help services offered by the State. Buses provided through Carson Senior Transportation offer various services for seniors in Carson City. An on-site laundry room is also available for tenants.

Yerington Manor was constructed in phases beginning in 1980 and ending in 1995. There are 51 one-bedroom units and one two-bedroom unit. Winnemucca Manor is located in a mining and farming community approximately 125 miles east of Reno, Nevada. Winnemucca Manor was opened in 1980 and has 18 one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units. Winnemucca is a growing community, providing shopping and amenities for its population. Winnemucca Manor is adjacent to the Winnemucca Senior Center where many of the tenants enjoy daily lunches and various activities.
